To be able to play import or backups, you need a mod chip.

And by imports, he means imported to JAPAN, and that includes EVERYTHING in America. There is a Japanese version of the "Swap Magic" boot discs, and you can use those to "knife swap" North American release games, and gameshark2/dvd region x, whatever you can get, and those will boot your American DVD movies, and that you can do without a modchip, and it's cheaper than a pro modding, and will give you over 90% of the compatability that a chip will, same rules as all swappers, some games just dont work, but I have over 200 backups and I can only think of half a dozen offhand that wont work off the swap discs.

I buy Japanese consoles, whenver I can, I mod my own, and I live in Hawaii, a million Japanese come here every year to blow their dough, and modding is illegal there, I think, anyway those are actully worth a lot more than U.S. consoles, once modded and opproperly marketed. I can have a friend who speaks it, make me a sign to put on it, that says its modded, and carry the things down Kalakua Blvd, I don't think it'll make it as far as Waikiki beach, in my possession.
Shipping to and fromn here is a bitch $30 each way, but if you want to pay for both rides, I'll trade you for a nice magic 3.1 premod, and I put in a tray chip, and a on/off switch with an led, to beat the network spies, and sometimes it's cool to be able to switch the thing back to bone-stock mode, for wives and chidren who hust wanna watch a dvd on thing, and just dont get the whole modchip thing, you know? I usually buy a new ps2 every month, mod it out, and paint it something as cool as I can, and anything better than jsut basic black. i call it a "monster mod",
mine is screaming safety yellow, I got my lil sister one I made for her in her favorite purple. It looks really good, believe it or not, I do it while its apart, of course, and I strip everthing, logos, stickers, the works down first, and oput the pertinant stuff back on, leaving the mem ports, and the dvd tray black, I even remove/replace the rubber pads on the side for the vertical pos feet.
To me, this is ART, and constitustes a hobby that actually comes out ahead money wise, and I'm really proud of all of them (I actually cant sell the things till I really NEED my investment back, they're MY BABIES) but anyway, pick a color.
i ahve one right now, white all around, with a red "rising sun", the Japanese flag, painted on the top. It's a SAMURAI, ready for battle on the internet.
A toxic agent on a dangerous mission so secret, even I don't know what it is, because if I did, I would have to kill myself. I don't even know who's side I am on.
