    Hi guys,

I'll warn first that I am a newbie to the PS2 scene, but am very willing to learn. Trying to find out as much information as possible before I install my Infinity into my v9. Just wandering things like, type of wire, is length an issue? and to what degree? What is the Romeo mod and is it 100% nessessary. Is there any place which has step by step tutorials like xbox-scene.com? Any place that has install pics of Infinity's in v9's?

Any help would be amazing. Soldering is not an issue.

    Thankyou guys

Alright first off you will need some 30 awg kynar wire. Radio Shack sells it in 3 different colors. Wire length wont be to much of a problem but shorter wires are better. The romeo mod is recommended as it should prevent the LA and laser from blowing. As for step by step tutorials i would recommend just looking at other peoples modchip installs here http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11400

that is an excellent thread that netmech posted, have referenced it many times myself. I can't say much for very many of the installs, but personally like to model mine after ShadowKnyght's stuff. I like his notion of keeping the wires very short and simple.

If you want to see an absolutely perfect, and insane might I add, install check out some of KaISeR SoZEi's stuff. His is just on this side of crazy with the time it must take. But they are something to be jealous of.

And to add to Netmech's good advice, use some 22AWG for the ground and 3.3 volt point. Keep the ground wire very short. Do the Romeo Mod for sure, very easy to do and less of a headache than having a broken machine. While you are in there do the color mod, so Pal games will play color on an NTSC tv, or vice versa.

Take your time and good luck with it.

Actually, looking at the pics some more, it looks like Netmech's are about the same type of thing that ShadowKnyght does. I like them both, just do something nice and neat, and it will work.

Thanks for the replies, Muchly Appriciated!

What's the best place to place the Infinity into the v9?

Are the Silver v9 boards differant to the black v9's?

I'll have a look round for Romeo mod tut's and one for the NTSC/PAL colour mods now.

    Thanks again

I don't know about the differences in the boards, but the best way to check is look through the thread that netmech pointed you to, and find your version with the chip you like, in fact find a couple, pick out your favorite one, open your ps2 up, and see if they look alike.

Good luck with it and take your time, the v9 with an infinity is a pretty tight fit in some places.

    Thanks for the replies tiggersbowl1.

Tight fit? That doesn't sound good... hmmm, I've found afew install pics on there. I always knew it would be much harder then the Xbox installs I've done.

Much harder is not quite the right wording. It has some very small points with little room between to install to. I have put in three so far, and they take a while, to make sure that everything is good and not shorting on anything else.

There are some alt points on the bottom of the board, so you don't have to use those pins on points "I, H, B, A", and one more, but I don't remember the letter of hand.

Good luck with it, and make sure to post on here if you need anymore help.
