I'm using this diagram -> http://www.brown-computers.com/images/MAGIC_III_V1A.jpg <- to install the magic 3 chip I got... but no matter where I go I can't find instructions on how to get to the bottom side where the 'S' point is. I have a version 1 ps2(even though the serial codes say it's a v2). So if anyone can point me to a site with instructions or just tell me what to do, I would be very thankful.

Get a big ass tipped 40 watt iron some flux and solder wick There are 4 Pwr/Supply posts that have to be desoldered before you can seperate the 2 boards to get to (S) For the MAgic 3.X you can use the ALT point on TOP of the board also NOT recommended though it may prematurly burn out the laser in your PS2.

Do you have a picture pointing out the alt point? and how much of a risk would I be running if I decided to use it?

Using NEO 2.2 diagrams its the point (2) were the SCEX wire is soldered to. Remember if Booting PS1 backups is NOT a concern then do NOT hook up the (S) wire on the Magic 3.x

Oh, is that so? I already have a modded psx. I was just doing this to play ps2 imports. I guess I wont be soldering that point then.
