Info needed about pstwo

Hello friends

In my last post about HDCONNECT,i am unable to to attach my existing pstwo v12.Accidentaly,the ide points on board are splashed> I tried to remove solder from it but it is not as clean. It seems that ide ponts are destroyed.
But my game is still working through CD/DVD. Sometimes game gives problem like crashing or hanging. I want to know that this problem is due to ide points. It is safe to play games even though ide points of board are damaged.

Secondly, my friend want to buy a new pstwo. There are two versions available in market:

1. NTSC-J
2. NTSC-U/C

NTSC-J is readily available. Please suggest him which player is better out of the above two. I sthere any technical difference b/w these two.

I believe NTSC-J is Japan, and NTSC-U/C is USA/Canada. How is he able to choose between them? You have to be in a certain country to get a certain model unless you get them from ebay or something.
