Ok just installed a blue dot matrix infinity homebrew to my v12 (slimeline PAL). And its just acting as if there isnt any chip in, it still plays original games fine but wont boot a firmware upgrade cd or an backups (wasnt expecting it to play backups without the firmware upgrade)...
Ive checked all points and they all seem fine tested 3.3v and gnd with a multimeter an they seem fine too.

anyone any ideas ? does the homebrew chip work in a v12??

    cheers

Yep it does. Hold the reset for 3 seconds if you want to upgrade a homebrew blue dot chip. I hope this helps.

yes, from stanby with the upgrade cd in i hold in the power/reset button until i see something on the screen then let go it either goes to the red screen of death or if i hold the button for a little longer the ps2 goes into standby wen i let go..

Is there anyway to tell if the chip is acually working without a disc?

    cheers

Well, if you have access to another PS2 w/infinity installed, you could try upgrading the firmware via the memory card. Using a working PS2 w/infinity, install the infinity manager on the memory card, then take the MC to your problem PS2. Hold down triangle with the MC in and turn on the machine. If that still doesn't work then i'd suggest you recheck the solder points.

ok ive checked and checked again (with a multimeter an by eye/magnifying glass) all my point and they all seem ok, even tryed swapping the chip for another (both came from the same place at the same time) but still nothing..

Im going to maybe try installing one of them in an older ps2 (v4 or v5 i think) and see how thats goes.
