Important question about PS1 direct-boot (Magic2)
Well, like I said in the thread earlier I've finally managed to get a Magic 2 in a v7 machine.
I was under the impression that the Magic 2 would direct-boot all PSX games.
This apparently is not the case.
I have a number of original PS1 Japanese games that have modchip detection programmed into them. To name a few (but not all) of these games that I've personally tested were Bust a Move 2 (Bust a Groove 2 in the US), Dance Dance Revolution series, Final Fantasy 8, Rockman X5, and Rockman X6. All of these games initially boot up but the protection prevents them from loading up after passing the PS logo. It is apparent that Magic 2 doesn't have the "stealth" capabilties that the original PS1 stealth modchips had. Even though I don't play most of these PS1 games (with the exception of the DDR games), this still is a big disappointment for me.
So I was wondering if any of the other direct-boot solutions including the Matrix, X0-2, and Messiah2 are able to direct-boot the "modchip protected" PS1 games. Specifically, I am now interested in the capabilities of the Messiah2. I realize that the popultion of PS2 users who actually play original PS1 games on their system is small, but the programmers of these new direct-boot chips should also take into account the small number of PS1 games with the modchip lockout algorithims programmed into them.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
