  1. #1 I wanna fix my M3 install

I've gotta magic 3, and when I installed it, it didn't work... I can play originals just fine, but the chip doesn't even seem to show any signs of functionality at all....

After about a 2 months after installed, I'm back in the mood to care about it working again (cuz I'm mad I spent $50 bucks and it doesn't work)...

My question is: Is there an easy way to tell if the chip even works???

I understand that I could check all my wries n stuff, but i think i checked them all with a multimeter and they looked good... Basically, I'm kinda lazy, and don't really wanna redo everything all over again if theres a simple way to test the chip..

    Thanks fellaz!

Assuming no bridge and all the points are soldered correctly. You can solder or resolder point 5v, reset, ground, and S. You can leave all other points as is. You should now be able to at least boot ps1 backup. If you can't then the chip is defective.

    OK, here's what I did...

    1) Checked all solder-pads -> M3 Main Chip (all connections are ON the M3 board).. Somethings weren't connecting properly, so I lifted the wire, and resoldered it... Now they all have proper connection..

    2) Checked from [5v, reset, ground, and S] -> M3 Main Chip (actual legs of chip ON the M3 board).. These 4 had no resistance through them (except RESET had more than others, had to switch my multimeter to 2M to get a reading, which I suspect is normal, since there IS a resistor cap on the solder pad).... Assuming these worked, I didn't care if the others did, I just wanted to test the damn chip...

    Now here's where I'm at:
    - When I put in an original anything, it works perfectly...
    - The Power/Reset button doesn't even seem to have a "Mod-Effect" at all... IOW, when I hold down the P/R button, it will still play PS2 originals just fine, and when I don't hold it down, it will also still play PSX originals....
    - PSX Copies (that worked on my old PSX w/a GameEnhancer) do NOT work
    - Just burned SuperBustaMove cloned from another CD using PRASSI, CDRWIN, and CLONECD.. Not working...

What else should I try? I've done searching, but I've found stuff about messing with the DVD azimuth or something... I don't think that's neccessary in this case....

WTF??!?!? I'm getting really tired of messing with this crap, but at the same time I SOOOOO want it to work...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...

Sound like you did all the right things. Try exchanging your chip. If you are getting the Please insert playstation formatted disk screen, then the chip is not even patching the bios. Don't mess with the azimuth until you get past this problem first.

well it's been rather long since i've bought the chip.... however... a new question arises...

Would the PS2 act normal if the chip was defective? Assuming all my connections are 100% (which i spent all afternoon checking.. it's been snowing here like no other)... then i was also assume that if the chip was defective, then maybe the PS2 wouldn't even funciton properly... or maybe it just polls the bios and such??

Eitherway.. i'm not seeing any signs of defect, except it's just not working.. and oddly enough, that just doesn't cut it for me.... it's not about doubt of losing all that money.. it's already lost... but the fact that i can't find anything WRONG.. that pisses me off...

    Thanks everyone
