i attempted to install the modbo v2.1 on my ps2, it is my third mod attempt, i have done 2 ps1's and they work fine, but this was a pain in the ass, i finally got all the wires soldered to the board, put it all back together hooked it up to my tv, it powers on, disc spins up, but NOTHING comes up on the screen, it just stays blue like theres nothing transmitting to it. i removed the chip, cleaned up the board as best i could, hooked it back up and i get the exact same thing. can anyone point me in the right direction? i really dont want to have to buy another ps2.. HELP!

Jit already mentioned to check fuses which is a good start. I would add to look over the board for any solder splashes and then also check the bios points with a multimeter you may have a bridge.

thanks for the advice guys i'll definitely give these things a try, i probably should have practiced soldering a little more before i did this, i was wondering if i used electrical tape to tape off the area around where i want to solder to if that would help me out at all? and also do you know where i might get some replacement fuses? if that is the case. and when i test it with a multimeter i should get a reading of 0.0? if i get some other number instead does that mean a fuse is blown? once again, i apppreciate your quick replies

just wonder what version ps2 this is??, divineo.com, or .cn has replacement fuses i believe,... when the disk spins up does it initialize and boot (do you know what that sounds like?), i'd say bridge on bios or dvd controller points would be the first thing i would look for... solder splashes are pretty rare, but do happen

good call, thats exactly what it was THANKS!
i think i'm gonna practice some more before i try that again.
can anyone recommend the best iron and solder and flux to get? i was using stuff that was too big i think. i was thinking about getting the weller wlc-100 soldering station. i'm just using a 30 watt iron i got from radio shack, and the solder sticks to the iron, and it wont come off. and when it does it drops huge globs on the board! something that will come with time i guess. i'm just glad it got fixed!

I read that a 15-watt soldering iron is recommended when working with PS2s.

Rosin Core Solder should do the job with no problem. Flux is also recommended to help make contact with solder much easier. Some tinner could help with solder and it's sticking to the iron too. All these you can get from Radio Shack.

I also have a 30-watt soldering iron from Radio Shack and the tip on those are too big for contacts on the PS2.

i'm using a 15w iron with a fine tip. flux is a definite. its helps a lot with soldering the wires to the via's. the solder i'm using is resin core 0.71mm - works like a bomb. Also look at getting some solder braid (mob) - works wonders with removing shorts from bios chips
