how to ground the clk point

i planning to install today massiah 2 on v5 today .
so i went to charlie F&Q and i read that on v5-v6 should be ground problem (36 Mhz).
the solution should be twisted wire my question is how do i do it ?
if i put the pcb where it show in massiah page the gound point on the mobo is close to the chip location and the clk point is on the end of the mobo.???
what should i do :crazy: i need extara wire if yes to where should i ground it???

other thing is the pal/ntsc fix this is realy neccery? does it work without it?

You wrap a wire around the CLK wire. Before you cut it to length, find a Ground point as near as possible to the CLK point and solder the second wire to that point. At the other end, solder that wire to the GND point on the MESSIAH 2 chip.

Just a question...

A thick wire (let's say, 24 awg) could be used for CLK instad a 30awg+twisted?

If it runs along the ground plane (motherboatd, without going over any component), then it should be OK.

Yeah this is needed but you will also probably need to glue or some how fix the cable down to the MB as even the twisted pairing is not always enough - I will post a picture tonight for those who are interested on connection points for the ground wire that you twist around the clock wire

Charlie - which is better - to have a seperate thick ground - then Make the clock wire as thick as possible and run a thin ground wire twisted around it a la my diagram (yet to be uploaded) or to have a thick ground wire and twist a thin clock wire around it??

It makes sense to have a thick ground wire - i.e. increases the exposure to a simulated ground plane but then he uses a thin clock wire - which may in itself be a problem depending on noise etc...

I don't know after many installs on v5-6's with the messiah 2 NO ground wire is needed wrapped aroud the clock wire just use the Alternate clock point and keep the wire as short as possible. Does the trick every time.

I had the wire only 3cm long and it did not work for PS1 games but was fine for PS2 - now I have it about 7cm but thicker and placed around the Messiah2 instead of travelling across it and have added a thin twisted ground wire and it works ok - but I did not glue the wire down so it still sits slightly above the MB's ground plane.

picture to come tonight - 3.5 more hours till I get home from dreaded work! :cry:

personally, i have only been using a thicker wire on the alt clk point and have not had any problems (make sure it is laid flat along the board, avoid going over other components.) i am yet to try the twisted pair. so long as you do one of these methods it should work.
