try takin it to a local electronic shop
A new laser is your best bet. You could try adjusting the DVD pots, but that's tricky. At least you couldn't really make it any worse!Originally posted by neomatrix

First off, try cleaning the laser lens with a Blaze cleaning disc. Run it through at least two to three times and then try booting an original DVD game.
If that works, but DVD-Rs don't boot, then it's probably the media. Use a quality brand like Pioneer, Verbatim, TDK, Imation, or Apple. Then try iy again.
Failing that, you'll need a new laser head. Lik-Sang has them for $45 and AirMail shipping should get it to you in 10-14 days or sooner (with no hassles from Customs.)
If you need someone to install it, click the New Age PSx Service on our home page and contact Bill.
hi guys im new here
but i guess the problem is in the motherboard cause i have a store in mexico, monterrey and i have experienced the same problem in about 6 ps2, i changed the laser lens drive in all of them and they still didnt read the dvds.so is not the laser lens

'try takin it to a local electronic shop'
Just a word of caution here. I bought a Ps2 for REALLY cheap off Ebay a couple months ago knowing it had a laser problem (it only read CD's not DVD's). The guy I had bought it from had taken it to 'local electronic shop' and they told him the MoBo was shot and quoted him some outrageous price to fix it.
