i just got myself a digicam Canon S400, and have been playing with taking pics.
i know that to take close up shots, you need to turn on macro, but i still cant get it as nice as some of you take them. any tips?
i cant get the lighting to show up well, thats one thing, using flash just makes the pic useless. i have a lamp (40W) shining on it about 2ft away but that doesnt do the job.
btw, if some of you have digital photo taking sites that i can learn from, please list them for me.

(dont know if this thread will get moved, but i stuck it here cause its regarding taking pics of mods)

it all depends on your camera and the functions it has. Surely your camera came with a manual ??

Settings for backlight, indoor, outdoor, night ???

My cam is 4 mega pixel but it sucks for close up shots. I take the best quality photo the cam can do (2240x1600 or something) and take it from 1-2' away from the object, then I crop out what ever is around and voila, great close up pic with a poor cam.

I have used a ton of digital cameras taking warranty pictures at work and i find the lower megapixel (2MP)cheaper cameras are easier to use

but that application does not require high resolutions for photo editing.

I have S410 so I can help you out. Turn it to manual shoot mode. (The little wheel)

Turn the ISO to like 200 or 400 and make sure you have plenty of lighting in the room. Then stay as still as possible and snap. Turn on macro (flower) as well.

I have a SD110 and just set it to manual and press the flower button. Works great. Even with the flash.. I usually turn the flash off to get a more natural look.

I have an s410. It is nigh impossible to avoid blurring on manual exposure mode unless you set it to 200 (or below?). I have gotten my best results by holding the camera up no closer than 8 inches - 1 foot away, and angling the camera so that the surface (which in this case would be the ps2 motherboard) so that it is at a 45 degree angle (top edge farther away than bottom edge) from the camera. This is to avoid the glare from reflection of the flash. The color isn't as natural, but I get pictures sharp enough to distinguish solder bridges and the like. I'm sure there are other ways, but for what i'm using it for, it suffices.
