Does it boot all of your games? (Im not flaming you bud)But hell, if it boots everything without any problems it could be a NH3 for all it matters. I guess the best way is to see if it boots from the browser. (But then again I have seen M2s not play nicely - due to install)

also, hold reset down long enough until something shows on the screen and see if you can get a PSX Backup to boot, if you can't its either Messiah2 Or Magic 3.1, Then Boot In PS2 mode (Normally), Go Into Browser, Insert a DVDR or CDR and see if it'll show ya the icon.
from the browser, it just flashes checking disc... but never detects anything... but it seems to boot 100% so far...
the messiah 2 will boot from the browser, just insert the disc and it should boot, just like an orginal.
wont boot originals from the browser either... i also downloaded a couple games to test and make sure the chip is working, sega tennis worked fine, but tekken 4 flashes the playstation 2 screen for a brief second, then is just a black screen. any ideas?
you may have a magic 3.1, test sega tennis in browser and see if it shows you the PS2 icon, also, it may have been a sloppy install.
no the tennis does the same thing as everything else from the browser, it just flashes checking disc... but it dosent crash or tell me to insert a proper disc, which is what i thought the magic 3 did?Originally posted by fooniman

can anyone explain why the tekken didn't work? if it wasnt a proper cd it wouldn't have brought up the playstation 2 screen at all right?
a couple people mentioned sloppy install, what defines a sloppy install? cuz i guess i'll have to take it apart to look at the chip, but what exactly should i be looking for?
sorry i didnt get a chance to add you yet. i'll do it tomorrow night.
update though, i downloaded another tekken 4 rip and it works. it only shows the playstation2 screen very briefly (unlike all the others i've tested) but this one actually goes to the game. i also tried 4 other ripped games which worked, and nba shootout, which works except for one part if you go to practice mode it is just a black screen. i dunno if thats the rip or what but the rest of the game works ok.
i think i'll heed the warning of some people tho and not use rips, i noticed especially on nhl2k3 that the laser tracking has to do a lot of work...
so can i assume now that it is a messiah 2 that just dosent boot from the browser? other than the tekken bad image its booted everything perfect first time. i'm gonna try some dvdr's today...
