So I tried to install a Matrix Infinity this past weekend with no luck. I removed the chip after the system wouldn't boot. Still nothing. I desoldered all of the spots that I soldered the chip to and again, nothing.

    Here's my symptoms:
*PS2 Boots for ~5 seconds then shuts off
*After it shuts off, it will power for less than a second then power off
Note- I removed the round metal tab of the casing around the motherboard to accomidate the SX solder point (later realizing this was a bad idea)

Here's what I've tried so far:
*Checked all fuses, they're all good.
*I ran a wire from the SX ground point to the metal shell around the motherboard to simulate the missing metal tab
*Cleaned the board up (desolder braid).

After simulating the missing ground piont, the PS2 will power on but display no sound or visual. I power down the PS2 and if I power up again, it shuts off instantly. When I power up the system, my TV flickers like its trying to send a video signal, but nothing actualy makes it to the TV.

    Please help!!
    Bill

double (and triple) check around all the points where you soldered. a solder splash could be causing ur problems.
