How to determine if I have a bad(fried) magic2 chip? –

Hey guys i returned my previous magic 2 chip as it was one of the bad ones. I recently got a new v7 red magic chip, and am just trying to see if ps1 backups will boot, so i did what modchips.ca said in their info, all i connected from teh chip was the reset, 5v, ground, s, w connections. Ps1 games will not boot they are on verbatim media, When i hold the reset button till the blue light comes on some of them go to the audio cd screen, thinking the cd is an audio one, some go to the please insert a playstation format disc? What could be wrong? How can i tell if my chip is messed up. I'm almost 100% sure its not the connections i checked over them 5 times already.
any help is appreciated
