I have never used one of these for installs before, and am wondering if the heat from the melted glue (My gun gets HOT) can damage any of the components on the board, are there any areas/parts that are a no go for hot glue?

Hey I just did my first two installs with hot glue. Mine was from the dollar store, and it doesn't really get that hot, and it seems to peel right off of the motherboard. Maybe you should buy a lower wattage one? I just actually rub the glue from the tip onto the parts I want to stick down, rather than depress the trigger.
I've put in ontop of ICS, and all over various SMDs. Everything was fine.
The components will be just fine.
Typically modern components are rated to work at quite high temperatures (such as 90C), so they will be just dandy if you get them a little hot for just a moment with the system off.
