Help ver ps2 logo only
Sorry to be a pain.Ive tried to search for possible answers but can't find a thread with exactly the same symptoms. basically I have a ps2 pal ver 9 working fine until I installed DMS3 chip. After that machine boots to PS2 logo and then black screen, disc spinning as normal.I then removed mod chip but symptoms persist.Have desoldered Using (soldamop) and cleaned all connection points. Is incidentally machine will boot prince of persia right through intro but does not load game proper.Any suggestions would be appreciated (two kids and wife not amused with daddy)
It's most likely the laser, have you checked that out?
Look at http://charlie.ps2newz.net for all possible adjustments, it'll surely help.
It could also be the LA or BA chip, whatever it's called on the V9, look through the threads about v9 trouble, you're not alone.
Thanks mate I'll have a look around.I dont think it will be the lazer as it wasn't touched and was working before I tried to mod it.Most likely the chip then you think?
Hmm, Another thing might be the CDVD points, take a look at those and make sure you didn't mess up..
..Another case would be the BA chip which controls the drive, most v9s end up with that problem after a mod install, though I'm a bit behind on ps2s later than the v8, so I wouldn't really know much about this..
This is the most I can do, though.
The "PS2 hangs after playstation2 logo" thing.. is a commonly know bug in the 1.8 BIOS of the DMS3 chip firmware..
For all I know DMS team is working on it..
There are workarounds for that..
like fastboot (press select @ startup) or just power the unit by opening the tray, put game in and press reset..
(you could've found that particular piece of info on www.dms3.com/forum )
so.. in effect.. the removal of the chip wasn't needed..
But since you did remove it...... recheck everywhere you soldered.
If you used the VIA's, check if they're all ok. use a good magnifying glass on the BIOS legs (and if you used the CXD chiplegs, there too) to look for microbridges or stray splashes of solder or solderballs onder the legs.. and clean with alcohol afterwards for any flux residu.
Thanks I knew about the fast boot etc and tried them before removing the chip.I have checked all the things suggested and cant see any faults.Could the DMS mod chip have caused this and is it safe to reuse in another ver 9 machine or is the same thing likely to happen. My machines under warranty so ill chance my arm and see if the shop will take it back.
