Help V9 Red screen *** 3.3 (clone)

Hi, hope someone can help me. I have a ps2 v9 modded with a *** 3.3 (clone) After i installed the chip everything was working perfectly. One week later my ps2 started to show the red screen everytime i loaded a ps2 backup, but worked flawlessly when i tried psx backups and ps2 original dvd's... So i took my ps2 to fix and the guy told me that my lens was bad (because it didnt play ps2 backup) can this be true? i mean my lens can be broken just because it doesnt play ps2 backups? what do u think? any suggestion? should i get a second oppinion?

Try taking the chip out completely. See if it does it or not
