Help with v4, unable to boot DVD-r and psx with magic 2
Help with v4, unable to boot DVD-r and psx with magic 2 –

After installing the magic 2 chip, the ps2 directboot works fine but unable to boot DVD-r and psx backups. I have verify that original DVD movies and games work. I have recheck and resoldered the points many times but still no go on the dvdr and psx backup. Also i have read the forum for other posting, if this ? has been ask and answer before then i'm sorry.

The magic2 version 4 chip is junk mine boots dvd-r one minute and red screens or goes to browser the next, pure and simple this chip doesn't do what it is advertised to do. I took mine out and installed neo 2.2 and all the disks that were being blamed as being bad and the adjustment of the the drive excuse and the "you need to burn at 2x" excuses got thrown out the window all my stuff boots even double swappin to load dvd-r works fine, magic2 is worse in a version 4 deck than neokey a IMO.

try different media, try booting from browser and try shortening install wires and let us know, my v5 would red screen once in a while too and i opened it up, shortened wires and works flawlessly, no more red screen, i would definetely try shortening wires to bios!!!!!!!!!

I reinstall the same chip in another USA v4 1b and still no dvdr and psx backup. I think it's the chip itself because when install the neo 2.2 and did the double swap the dvdr works. Does anyone know what wires that controlls the switching between ps2 and dvd\psx.

I had the same problem with my Magic modded v3. Everything worked fine with the Neo installed, but the Magic refused to boot DVDr and some PS1 originals. Based on another thread that I read by charlie_ps2, I replaced the smaller guage wire on the 5v, 3.3v and GND connections with 22 AWG wire and now everything boots perfectly.

As I mentioned in your other cry for help, you need to go back over your work and verify your soldering skills...
