Help - PS2 may be dead!

I have an SCPH-10000. It is modded with an XO-10 and has been working fine.

Last night I installed the 1.0 DVD driver from the utility disc. After loading I played and everything seemed fine.

I came down today and now when I turn the power on the system doesnt boot up. I just get a black screen.

Is my system dead? I tried removing the memory card with the DVD driver but no luck.

hmmm.... duz ur leds on ur ps2 come on ??

Have you try to open up your system to see if the wire is still connected?

The LEDs are on. I finally got angry and left the system for quite awhile.

When I came back it booted right up. Then I cycled the power and tried to boot again and I got the black screen.

Now I am stuck on the black screen. Resetting doesnt work, and cycling the power doesnt work.

Got any ideas?

So the first time you left the leds on and you left it like that, then after a while it start it again it work, then you try again and it stop working it. Check to see if your chip is touching the metal plate, or if the the wire is correctly connect to the mother board or the chip it self.

Thanks for your help Sniper.....the metal plate was touching the chip I believe. I did not realize that there was sticky tape on the back of the chip. When I stuck it to the motherboard it started working fine again.

One more question, though....

I tried to watch the DVD "Changing Lanes" (first DVD I have tried to watch).

I can get to the introduction screen (the one that says "Play, Scene Selection, etc.) but when I press "Play" it starts to work then the "stop" button automatically comes up and I am left at the menu.

I tried the trick with the original PSX controller.....could you watch US DVDs on your modded SCPH-10000?

No problem. Yeah I alway play my DVD movie on my 10000 model when it was still alive. But sometime I have problem play DVD, sometime it will just stall then I have to try to play it again and then it work. Since the the DVD software is 1.00 the first generation drive, it got bug in it.

I dont know why my PS2 is acting so weird.

Now it is simply refusing to play US games.....

I get the screen that says "please insert Playstation or Playstation 2 Disc".

It was working fine with US games last night. Then I messed around trying to watch the DVD movie and suddenly it wont load US games. It will play Japanese games. I check all the wiring and everthing is fine

Is it possible to get the system stuck in some weird mode or something? (you once referred to PSX Mode)....

It wont play anything but Japanese games now....

I dont know what the hell happened...but it appears as if the XO-10 just stopped working!
