I´ve just spent quite some time trying to find out which mod-chip suits the demanding PS2-User best. From my "newbie point-of- view", there´s only 3 real options: the matrix2 FAT, the magic3 and the messiah2 pro.
All three offer the biggest range of playable formats, according to "ps forum" (here´s the link )
The only difference seems that the Matrix2 FAT removes the macrovision (whatever that is). I couldn´t find out much more about the matrix2 FAT exept that it pretty much copies the messiah2, so why choose a copy over the real thing?
The Messiah2 itself has in vers. 1.08 issues with DVD-R when used in a PAL PS2. As my regioncode is PAL, and getting an older Messiah2 version (like 1.07) might be a though challenge, the Magic3 just has become the last survivor on the list.
So my conclusion would be to go for the Magic3, but i´m not sure if i got the facts right. I´d appreciate any help.
One last thing: my PS2 has the Model-Nr. SCPH-30004 R, 8 screws on the base, electrical hazard warning, and three screws on the upper rim of the extension bay, so it´s a v5, right?
v108 is safe on messiah 2
it looks like the problem is with actel chips datecode 0245
0245 have v108 software on them
v108 on earlier chips work fine no problems yet
Personally a lot of people don't like the magic 3, at times, and with some versions they can get really hot. Also, go with a messiah 2, and if you are really concerned with the macrovision, go get a macromod.
