Help please, no blue light but BA chip seems OK
Help please, no blue light but BA chip seems OK –

I have 2 v7 consoles that have the same problems. They both have a Matrix infinity in them. 1 system was working fine for over 1year with the chip and the other was working good for almost 1 month. The other day i went to turn them on and they both just sat there with no video and no blue light. The cd drive would not open and it did not attempt to spin at all either. I have read other posts on here that suggest the BA chip to be the cause of this but when i went to measure if the BA chip was ok i got a reading of 1ohm for pin8 meaning it wasn't grounded and still ok, right? I also checked PS11 and PS12 - they both are ok? Does this mean the other BA chip (BA6444FM) is bad? Can anybody else point me in any other direction as to what to do next?

Sorry, i think what i meant to write was that i don't get continuity when i check pin 8 of the BA. I have the multimeter set on ohm and i get a 1 on the screen when i'm not tuching anything with the probes and the 1 stays there even if it check pin 8 which would mean there is no continuity and that pin8 is not grounded. Am I right by saying this?

Do you get 0 when you join the probes?
If the BA is indeed not grounded, check carefully the board for shorts, solder splashes, etc ...
First troubleshooting step would be to remove the chip.

test all fuses, usually a no video no blue light means an open ps14 fuse.

Yes it does read 0 when i touch the probes.
I also removed the chip lastnight and same thing is going on.
I tested all the fuses i could see using the same setting on the multimeter as i did for the BA chip and they all read 0.06ohm. It didn't matter if it was a 50,30,or 100 fuse. They all read the same value.

Well, i got the ps2 running again!!! It turned out that PS14 fuse was dead on both machines and the BA chip was good. I replaced the fuse with a PICO 2A/ 125V FAST ACTING Fuse from a local electronics store for $1.25. Thanks for all the help everyone.
