Hi. I istalled smartchip x5 for this V9 machine and it looked going well.
Then I put all together and this is what I got:

    1. I Put power on from the switch at back, all ok (red light in reset)
    2. Pressed RESET, It turns to Green.
    3. Eject light comes on and JUST BLINKS. Sled won't open at all.
    4. Also i can hear strange noises from the laser.
    5. NO sound/Video at all.

I have checked and measured all the pins and no shortcuts. Could this be something releated to those
B-I pins at the VIA's (i used via points)?
Also tried to disconnect 3.3V line from the chip and symptoms are the same.
I have connect that X point from smartchip to A point in the motherboard. Is this ok?

    thanks

    Tomi

yes the A point and the X point are one and the same...

try the attached instructions - they may be clearer than the ones you used... (same as the smart chip points even though this is for the blueX-5 - most V9 chips use the same points)

    Possible cause of your problems:
    1) Burnt out one of the vias with to much heat
    2) when scraping the via to get solder to stick you cut the track...
    3) incorrect connection points
    4) chip or wire shorting on case
    5) blown fuse or part in area of chip connections...

    thanks mate.

I just looked all over again and made couple wires shorter.
So I turn it on and that eject light comes blinking like it was, also that laser sound is still there ( Opened that CD-drive cover and saw that there's no activity when powered. No sled movement at all.)
If I let it be ON I will get picture and sound but can't open that sled.
Also noticed that there's no heat pad in LB chip at all.

What chip is responsible for that cd-drive mechanism??

How the hell can i check those via points with multimeter ?? ( i have measured from VIA to SMARTCHIP and from SMARTCHIP to TOPSIDE large CHIP and both are GOOD. Does that mean there's no cut lines??)

    Thanks

it is possible that with no heat pad on the LB chip that is may have burnt... but I have had most of the V9's with missing heat pads and they never died...

I actually made my own version with a piece of tin metal from a floppy disk as a heat sink connecting the chip with the metal plate - but this wont help you now...

so you don't even get a twitch out of the motor?

usually you get a quarter turn before it stops... but if that is not happening there may be hope:

Check your ribbon cable from the laser to the Main board - make sure it is seated fully connected to the leaver connector on the main board and also make sure it jas not pulled loose from the lens sled - as this can happen...

if this and all other ribbon cables are fine - check fuses in the area - these are designated like PS014 usually with 30 or 50 written on top of them (black rectangles like diodes)

Yes i have checked all the fuses in the board and all works great. -(.

But i noticed that Ribbon cable from Eject/reset buttons was not in perfect shape. If i measure all those lines and there's shortcut between some lines is that OK??

And if reset is repeatedly pushed it opens the SLED. Funny thought.

    Thanks.

OK I have removed the chip and all the symptoms are still there.

I power on from back switch. All ok till i press reset and the machine starts running. It will instantly start blinking that eject light and that terrible noise from the laser starts.
I get sound and pictures but theres no electrons whirling.

Is there any chance that the laser is somehow misaligned?

And can i test this machine so that i don't have that Controller Port installed at all?

And where does data lines go from those VIA points in the back side?? (if i have accidentaly cut a line)

    Thanks
