cactusjack, if your trying to install a chip into a version 3 ps2 and you have no soldering skillz.. you will most likly fry your system... and magic 3.6 sucks why? because it uses clips and a presson chip for the bios... you will notice problems with it.. i recommend saving your money for a messiah 2 pro and have a installer do it for you.
My uncle has done about 20 chips in PSX's and DC's and such. ANd he's done atleast 5 PS2's with USB mod's, unfortunatly those don't do Imports unless I make a backup of the games, which I don't want to.
Regardless I'm gonna pay him to instal the chip for me, I just need hte chip in the first place
According to that website you gave I have a Version 1 PS2. Atleast that answers that question as to the version I have. So that helps
Also I'd love to order from that site you gave, but the only thing is they use Paypal and I've had a few bad experiences with paypal and will never use them again.
I'll most likely order them direct from NeoAsic. I'm still debating the Magic 3.6/Messiah 2 Pro deal and it's more than likely gonna come down to price.
And if all else fails I'll get a flip top mod.
The Messiah2 is very good now. Console Communications sells the v1.30 that will work on your console. Dont buy from neoasic because they cater to resellers. Find a pro modder like LOD at http://www.freedomlives.com add $20.00 more because you have a v1 and they are harder to do and stuff like that. You can also try the dms3 at http://www.consolecommunications.com or http://www.foundmy.com under the device area. I hope this helps.
I will add more later.

I have a messiah 2 which I bought from foundmy.com and had it installed by freedomlives.com. Works great. Tryed the flip top case slowed my cd/dvd drive. Could'nt read cd/dvd disk with that flip top lid. Go with a mod chip. Swap Magic discs won't even play some dvd games or cd games. You have to have Swap Magic discs to play your backups. The only reason why I bought a flip top case ie because I wanted a clear case for my ps2. I bought my flip top lid from firefly. It did'nt fit right on my version 5 ps2. I don't think you can even use Gameshark/Codebreaker/Action Replay 2 with the Swap Magic discs.
I trust my uncle to do a good job on the mod.
Heck he and my dad built a computer back in the 70's.
And this was back when they were nothing but kit's and you had to put EVERYTHING together by hand. I'm talking a few HUNDRED solder point
Well I'm gonna try to get some stuff set up over the next few weeks and try to secure a few bucks.
Like I've stated I'm just going to have like 2 or 4 import games specifically for hte PS2 and I've spoken to several people and seen several flip tops that have no problems what so ever.
Well At least consolecommunications has a Magic 3.1 for about $30, heel that's cheaper than a Flip top from PS2case.com
I'll have to get a hold of my uncle later to see what he'll charge for hte install
