Ok I got a brand spanking new PS2 v7/v8. It has a gh-022 mainboard so is it v8? I got a dms3 v2.0 and installed it yesterday. When I went to try it out I got a black screen. When I held eject to boot to stealth mode it booted fine. I then checked all the connections resoldered the power and ground and tried again. It booted up this time and would take a couple seconds for the browser to appear. It played psx backups ps2 originals but no dvd movies or ps2 backups. I messed around with it some more and resolded the dvd cd controller points and bios points. Now it would only give me a black screen again.

I have now demodded the ps2 and removed all the wires cept for the scex one I just put electrical tape on the other end(It looks perfect and I didn't want to mess it up by removing it). I plugged the ps2 back in and powered it up and the browser came up. Now when I restarted and every time after that all I get is a black screen. The power and eject buttons function fine when a disk is inserted it reads it and continues to spin but nothing comes up. I checked all adjacent bios pins with a multimeter in resistance mode to see if there is any solder bridges but I didn't find any. While typing this I have been testing the ps2 to provide an informative post. I just powered it on and got a blank screen I then inserted a gameshark disk and when the tray closed the ps2 browser screen came up it then attempted to boot it but nothing came up. I then removed the game and powered it off. Then i hit power again. Black screen again. This time when I hit eject the browser screen came right up. I've now tried multiple times with different turning on and off techniques with and with out games and all that I get is a black screen. grrr. I hope someone will be able to diagnose my problem.

most of your problem is caused by short somewhere, check again for splahes and solder balls near the bios and near the cd/dvd controller, you can also check the countaty of 78M05A Voltage Regulator (it happend it you stay with the iron tip too long) you have 2 like this on the mobo both countaty shold be the same.
    hope illhelp some how

I'm really embarrased on what I have just realized. When I installed the chip I connected the p and q wires to the wrong spots. I have my alternative locations marked on the attached pic. So my question is then Did I mess something up by connecting it to the wrong spots? This probably explains why the dvd movies didn't work. Is my cd dvd signal processor chip ruined now?

It won't have ruined the chip to have miswired as you did.

Ok my PS2 is still acting messed up. I've messed around with it after taking out the modchip. With the modchip out most of the time it boots with a black screen and sometimes it boots fine. When it boots up fine audio cds work ps2 games work but dvd movies don't. They keep spinning the browser says reading disk but nothing will happen. Sometimes it says disk read error.

I have now reinstalled the chip to see if it would boot backups now using the correct p & q points. It still wont boot ps2 backups or dvd movies everything else including psx backups boot fine. With the modchip in it doesn't always boot up like before. Most of the time all I get is a black screen. I can't figure out why it is doing this. I just keep powering it on and off and sometimes it turns on with the main screen.

I just relized that with the modchip in it boots all the time in stealth mode. But boots at the same succes rate in the on state as it did with the chip completely out. This is vey strange and is driving me crazy

I have one dvd-r backup and a ton of cdr backups from either a dvd rip or a cd copy. All the cd-r backups worked on my old ps2 with the neo-key mod. I think I am going to have to get a new ps2 because this problem is driving me insane and I want to play the thing for the first time in 2 months.
