do you have a multimeter? if so, you can easily test each point. just make sure there is 0 resistivity for each wire.

test ps1 backups...if they work you can eliminate a few wires...hold rst down for 3 sec. while on standbye, if you didn't already know...

resistivity is measured in ohms. set it to test for that.

maybe I need to add this to my help page...

Set it to ohms or on some meters there is even a continuity range which has a nice little beep when connection exists (zero ohms)

    Pretty much:
    (1) choose one of these ranges. (0-200 ohm, continuity, or just ohms if it auto ranges)

    (2) Touch the two probes together to confirm the meter works - you should get very close to zero ohms + a beep if the meter supports beeps... (most probes will show between 0 and 0.5 ohms when the probes are touched directly)

    (3) then holding one probe at one end of a wire and the other probe at the other end - you can measure the resistance of the link. (it does not matter which probe is used on which end for resistance)

    (4) depending on the wire used you should not see more than say 0.2 ohms increase over the reading shown when the probes are touched directly together.

    (5) if a 1 with no decimal places is shown - this means that the resistance exceeds the scale you have it on and that there is a problem with the connection. same applies if you have a value greater than a couple of ohms more than when touching the probes together.

if this is the case - check the solder joint - if that is ok - suspect that the cable is internally damaged and replace.
