Ive been through it,im assuming the "RED SCREEN DISPLAY"is the relevent part for me,(its only going to red screen for dvd backups)reinstalled W, shortened 5v, 3.3v+grd, shortend bios wires S + A through I are fine cant understant why it will do a cd no problem but not dvd

Marcus, the magic will not boot if the ps2 delay too much to recognize a media, its not happen with dvd movies.
Can you hear some kind of ticks when u put dvd-r inside ps2? If yes it means ps2 can“t recgnize what kind of media is inside and goes to retry.... look laser calibration....

Look specifically at the laser azimuth adjustment.

try burning at 2x, and maybe another brand of media... I have heard that the v7's can be a bit on the picky side. I think its Guichi that always recommends 2x over 1x on the dvd's. I have never even tried 1x, but he says it can give some problems.
also, if you can get your hands on recordnow max or primodvd, give those a try.

CD users a different laser diode from DVD. Meyousikmann's advice on Azimuth adjustment is sound; on v7s we've had to do this. We also recalibrate the DVD pot by reducing its resistance by 10%.
