Friend of mine last night was installing a switch on my magic 3.1 system and for some reason was screwing with the 5v... He pulled the trace off the board and now I am wondering if there is an alt point we can use to by pass the hole in the board...

Did he lift the trace on the PS2 or the chip itself? If so, you can just follow the trace from the point on the chip to another pad that you can solder the 5V to.

As for 5V on the board, there are numerous places to get 5V. Voltage regulators come to mind.

Did he use the voltometer on the multimeter to find his 5V?

I guess what he did was try and dig a little deeper into the board to see if he could get another shot at rebuilding the trace.. guess he went a bit too deep.. fried it nice

That sucks. The Alt voltage point is right next to the 5v pad. Should have used a multimeter or searched the threads here.
