Help A Lame Newb :)
Essentially , I got a PS2 with 50010N as the model number , I am located in Canada and want to get the most reliable/compatable mod chip for me at a decent price , Im sure you all can help with this , which chip is good and what store is reliable to get it from , working with this model number of course
thanks :)
EDIT: im also not concerned so much with removing dvd region coding as I wont watch dvd's on my machine , basicly just playing back up games

OK so I did some searching as suggested by the forum admins , and it looks like the Duo2Se might be the winner , now does this play most backups without having to worry about bad game saves or anything like that?

duo2se works fine .. i have the same model PS2 as your ... i got mine from foundmy.com .. it was $29 including shipping (arrived in 2 business days) ...

was it easy to install? I have an Iron already , is it just the 19 wires?
Do you think its the best solution if all I want my chip to do is play backup DvD5 and DvD9 games (I dont want to watch movies or do anything fancy)
(man 29$=37CAD is much better than the $61CAD I almost dished to modchips.ca for the magic V)

You have DVD9 disc? Those cost like $10-15/each!
Yes, if you just want to play backups, that chip is the perfect solution. I believe it's 21 wires for V9/10.
If you never soldered before this could be a challedge for you. Cause you have to solder to vias and legs. Pretty tough if you never done any soldering.

I am also at $39 Can for this chip.
You keep mentioning not watching movies. All current chips on the market include this functionality by default. The Duo2 is no exception. So, for about $40 canadian, you just can't go wrong.

Sweet , anyone with any experience Soddering it in wanna tell me how easy it would be for someone with minimal soddering experience to get it right?

Practice. Find some old circuit boards and practice soldering the smaller components. Also be sure and get some desoldering braid and learn how to use it to effectively clean up mistakes/messes. I was certified in soldering in the military but it had been so long since I had last soldered a circuit board, I found soldering on my v5 board to be a rather tough task. Once you get the hang of it, though, it gets easier.

practice make perfect I spose , I might try and find an electrition to install it too

Don't expect that much good from the DVD9 BACKUPS as readability of these is VERY questionable in a V9/V10 PS2... *especially if you're not gonna swap your laser every 2 month* Other than that the Duo is a good choice, if you don't want to spend more for some extra features of other mods.
