  1. #1 PS2 PROBLEMS with magic2 v7 premod!
    snoopdiggy Guest
hey guys. I have a v7 magic 2 premod from genomods.com. When i play games like DVD copies of Final Fantasy X, or Kingdom Hearts....it will freeze. It's not THAT big a problem, because once it freeze, and when i reboot...it'll go through the same part, without freezing, USUALLY.

however, it is very irritating having to paly a whole bunch, and then have it freeze all of a sudden realizing, i forgot to save! So usually, the games will freeze in long hi-res movie cut scenes, or sometimes in transitions in gameplay. such as loading a certain scene...or something.

Now supposedly, I hear the 1uf capacitor will fix this? My question is. what kind of capacitor EXACTLY, do i need, and how do i go about installing this? Do I need to solder? What kind of solder do i need? Does charlie or anybody else have a guide for soldering this capacitor? please help

    thanks

*EDIT*: WOAAHHHHH a totally new problem has popped up...prolly along the same lines

When i was playing FFX International (DVD-R) The game will go black all of a sudden, and then the PS2 System browser will pop up!!! And only a picture of a memory card shows up! meaning no MEDIA IS DETECTED!! WTF?!?!?!? What is the problem with my premod system?! can someone please tell me!

All you have to do to get your answers is head over to the FAQ forum and do a little reading...

The PS2 has been provoked into entering its boot code. This maybe noisy SCEx which is resolved by the capacitor as described in the FAQ.

It might be the RESET cable going wonky or the flat ribbon cable from the Reset switch shorting or going intermittent.

do you think this could be a laser issue maybe? supposedly, V7's need laser recalibration after modding (?)

There is definitely something wrong with my PS2.....<sigh> i guess its what i get for being lazy and trusting a premod magic2

What kind of media are you using? I know on mine if I use something like DVD-RW it has some difficulties reading it on startup and you'll get the "Playstation2" logo, make some sounds like it's loading then drop back to the browser.

That would be my guess. But does it also drop back when you play originals?

but actually, I just opened my PS2...and guess what i see

    MAGIC III
    and a BIG SMILEY FACE

So i guess i have a MAGIC3 not a magic2....WEIRD. No wonder my problems sound so consistent with the magic3 problems people been having. Now, i feel a little better...but NOT REALLY, because there is no solution to the magic3 problem! (the capacitor does nothing) <sigh>.....
