Help Identifying Mod Chip
Help Identifying Mod Chip –
This is my first post and here is my story, to the best of my typing ability:
I recently acquired a V7 PS2 from a buddy of mine, and it was free, so that is good. It came with the official 40GB HDD and BB Adapter with Modem.
It was apparently also modded in Korea, but he was not informed of what mod chip was placed in it.
If I try to load a game (backup or original) with the HDD in, it will not load, except in the case of:
-Original, if I hold the Reset button until the Playstation 2 logo shows on screen.
-Backups, no load at all, I get the pink screen of doom, informing me that I do not have a Playstation or Playstation 2 disc inserted.
If I do not have the HDD installed, but do have the network adapter installed, the backups and originals work just fine.
I can not get PS1 games to work in any case, but hopefully we can resolve that.
It is not so much an issue, but I would sure love to use the HDD and would like to use a burned copy of HDLoader. Since, at this time, I can not boot backups with the drive installed, this is impossible.
I would prefer not to open the PS2 to identify the mod chip, but I guess, if it is the only way, I can do so.
I have not tried the PS1 games without the BB adapter installed either.
Hopefully, someone can help out, and I apologize for the lengthy first post.
P.S. I forgot: there is no intervention required when loading backups and originals with the HDD removed.
The HDD does work, as when I just boot into the browser, I can see approx. 4 HDLoader images on there.

a picture is worth a 1000 words
It says NH7 on the actual chip and the board.
So, I guess I have a V8 then, also are there any utilities that I can use for the chip? And what may be causing the HDD to make to mod chip not load backups?
Do you know what the latest firmware on it is?

CD Player 1.20
Playstation Driver 1.10
DVD Player 2.12U
Well, I got the MC exploit to run and then I installed Free McBoot. I can see the HDD and all is well.
I love Free McBoot, as I don't need a trigger disc now.
