Help to identify chip please.
Help to identify chip please. –

Hello.
My mate came along with a broken PAL V4 ps2 , which apparently has a no swap chip in. He wanted me to see what chip was in it and if possible transfer it to his V5 PAL ps2. Thought should be no prob , identify the chip and if it will work in a V5 change it over.
How ever I've come up against a little problem. The chip appears to be some sort of homebrew chip I guess. Two pics (I assume) covered in tape. 1 has most of the wires going to it , then a single wire going to a second chip which has a few more coming off it and going to the ps2 mainboard.
I can get pics if needed , but covered in tape (don't really want to remove , incase it breaks the wires , trying to save having to resolder to the chips) so don't know how much they will help.
Any idea's what it is? , mate reckons it's direct boot , but thought you had to buy them. Never thought you could program yourself , although I aint been up to date on chips since the original messiah came out. So I guess alot has changed.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
.

you expect people to know what chip it is without any description or pics

It is probably one of those really old chips that came out in the early days of the PS2.

I can try to get the tape off if need be , but hopefully can work out from where it's installed.
Suppose to be no swap , but I cannot comfirm this. Never seen it in action so just going by what my mate claims.
Pics where resized to 640x480 , but have full size versions if need (3mb each).
Thanks

K thanks for the help. Found out he thought it was direct boot cos he's mate left an original in the drive and he thought it was a backup. Didn't think the neo2.x soldered directly onto any of the ic legs though.
Anyway now I know what it is , does anyone have diagrams for it with ea/dvd-r boot working?. I know it never used to work , but thought I read there were alternate points to get it going on a v5.
I've had a look , but most places that had the diagrams now get a 404 page not found or something similar
.
Suggested he gets a no swap , but won't have it. Does not want to spend any money.
Thanks.

if he can't spend $10-$15 on some cheap mod chip than you shouldn't waste your time on that old ass chip
