Tonight I just installed a Duo2 (clone from robotpig) into a v4 no gap SCPH-30001. Originals, backups & a HK silver do not boot in the normal PS2 mode. When I turn the PS2 on, it goes to the browser screen & then says no data, then the RSOD. If I turn the chip off (hold power for ~ 5 seconds) Original PS2 & PS1 games boot. In PS1 mode (hold chip till the blue light comes on), PS1 originals & copies work.

Which wire should I check? Or should I replace the whole chip? I checked the A,B,I wires and they looked good. Any help is appreciated.

redo abi, if ps1 games work then all the other points are ok. a is for cd and dvd, b for cd and i for dvd from my experience. In a v4 10cm+ abi wires will not work too well, make sure the chip is placed close to the bios and abi points for nice short wires.

I was figuring that I would have to redo the ABI. I checked them last night and they seemed good. First I'll try the alternate points, then if it still doesn't work I guess I'll have to move the chip closer (currently it is in the far right, close the the ground soldier pad). I've installed other chips in this position and never had this problem.

Thanks for the advise. I'll try it later on today and report back my findings!

I reccomend moving the chip closer, I had this problem in v4's with duos before, works perfect when its near the bios chip. Though it did work once when I had it under the 'Cautuon Replace' thing as long as I made the soldering to the via's very nice, like nice big balls of solder on the points.

Well I am just stumped. I moved the chip all the way over to the right of the mnop points. Same thing. Then I changed to anohter chip and moved it to the left of the mnop (between the abi & mnop points).. My ABI wires are about 2-3cm at most and it still wont work properly.

Anyone else have any ideas? The only other time I modified a v4 was with an old magic 3.1 (and it worked perfectly the first time). I wish I had one of them now. Pretty much my only other option is for a Mars II MA 303.

Also, does anyone know what will happen if I connect the other points (GHXW)? I know that they are only for v9/10, but what do those points do?

Ok I think I figured out something. This PS2 loads discs slow, (with or without the chip), so I think that the reason it's not booting is because the chip goes to sleep before the discs authenticate, resulting in a RSOD. If the PS2 has been on for awhile, or I keep trying, the discs will load. Then, once it loads, I can press reset all day long and it keeps on loading up. So maybe I have to adjust the laser? Any guidance is appreciated.
