Help with DMS3 install
Well I've bit the bullet and installed my v9 DMS3 in my pal v9. I had made every effort to go by the rules, basing my wiring layout on kaiser's. Now on to testing it, it will play originals fine, but when I try a ps2 or psx game (from malaysia) it gives me the "Please insert playstation or playstation 2 disc". Is there any other way to tell whether the chip is actually powering up, and working etc? (ie to rule out a faulty/dead dms3 chip)...I've also noticed that when loading ffx the screen seems to have top and bottom black borders and these don't seem very straight. Is this due to the dms3 chip?
I've doubled up the power line (using two 30awg kynar wires twisted together) and attached them the point as shown in the dMS3 install diags (I was trying to use the via points closer to the chip but had too much dramas trying to solder to the damn thing)
thanks in advance..
Hey I sympathise with you mate , me also being a newbie in this area have recently installed a dms3 in my v5, unfortunatly blowing the fan fuse in the process (all being resolved not to worry).
So you may want to wait for a proper pro to reply but in the meantime ... Some people have said that once installed there is a slight delay in seeing the first boot screen (1 to 2 secs) when chip is active, and when you put chip into sleep mode (from standby hold eject for a few secs) it appears instantaniously as normal, i dont know how true this is but if it helps.
Also I know my ps2 stopped reading discs for a bit, and ive ONLY JUST installed mine as i said, i think while modding some dust covered the lens, so I have gently cleaned my lens and it reads discs again now, maybe thats all it needs
Thanks for the reply Neccy.. yeah it seems as though the chip "isn't being detected".. I've scoured through the forums and dms3 troubleshooting guide, and looked at the "C" wire and made sure it was connected properly. the only thing I think that may be a prob with my install is the chip legs, I've gotta go out and buy a magnifynig glass today, but even if there was a small bridge say, wouldn't I get a black screen rather than the "please insert.... blah blah blah" that I'm getting?
p.s. is this screen that I'm getting referred to as the RSOD?
S15 (in troubleshooting mode :) )
would my D & E wires pose a problem with the way/path they're routed?
Yes.. it probably is the D&E wiring. Just try to route them seperately, this should fix your problems. Also read the forums at dms3.com, because this problem is described a lot there.
