I have a V7 ps2, with a magic 3.1 chip installed. I bought it about 2 years ago. I was working fine....seemed to be freezing durring NFL Street occasionally. But other wise its worked fine for almost 2 years.

Then all a sudden i was playing NFL street, and in the middle of the game the sound stopped, and my controler stopped working. The game was still going but i had no control over it.

So i powered down to stand by, and when i tried powering back up I only recieved a black screen, and the tray would not eject. So i couldn't get my disk out.

The lights on the reset and eject button turn on fine, they power down to stand by and both turn the light to green when pressed. But nothing seems to work, i just get a blank screen and cannot get the tray opened.

Any advice offered would be great. And if its completely dead, I would appreciate Advice on What new chip to get.......The magic V, the Messiah 2, or the DSM 3. And also where to get it.....

I had heard www.xmod.com is good.

Also if its dead is anyone interested in buying it for parts?

sound like a dead ba chip!?!? - BUT could be anything?!?

    wire come loose etc.

I think if the ba is dead you wouldn't get the blue light?!?! BUT your syptoms are as if the BA is dead.

As for chips the Matrix MXL2 is brilliant and very easy to install. DUO is also good for a v7 as a basic mod!

Probably the dead BA 5815 problem... You can get one easily and replace the dead one. Also check your laser, burnt BA was probably damaged by too low resistance laser coil or low quality DVD-R media. (overheating)

No, it's the focus/servo IC, and also controls the tray.

BUT before you attempt to fix it MAKE SURE it is that.

Ps: Have you checked all your fuses and also the modchip wiring on the mboard, black screen can also happen if wire is off etc.

yes, there is a fuse near to the BA 5815. Check it, if that's blown, chances are high your BA is gone. Anyway, BA 5815 pin number 8 will tell you whether it's on ground or not, if it's, you'll BA is blown. Of course there are several other possible reasons but that is the most likely. BA can be replaced, but you have to be an expert in soldering, otherwise you can do damage to the PS2. Selling it as part is not a good idea, a BA can be bought for 10 bucks, and your PS2 is working again. Of course you better check the laser coils aswell, as the BA can be damaged again (in a short time) by too low resistance coils. If those are lower than 4.5 ohm, phew a new laser is also needed.

    regards, Stephen
