ive seen this problem also on a few boards i have had in for repair
its the ba chip that has gone and and the 50 fuse beside it both will need replacing these are on perfect installs also the heat pads have been on the ba chips so i would say its not an install problem but the effects of the messiah 2 i hope not but from what i have seen its looking this way but it only seems to be on certain v7 machines a small % but it does happen even after replacing the ba chips and reinstalling the messiah it blows the exact same ic and fuse when replaced again and a judus installed it works fine so it points to the messiah 2 causing this problem .

I don't mean to butt in here but i had the exact same problem with a magic 3.5- no electrons+no video. though it was my first chip install- i am far from an amateur at soldering and i am 99.99% certain that it had nothin to do with da installation process. just my 2cent

the indicator of it being the ba chip or fuse or both together if the reset cable is fine is loss of the blue eject light.

How did you work that out EnTiTy? The tray LED is controlled from the DSP, no doubt based on logic from the BA58. But how would it be definite that the BA58 has failed if the blue LED is not alight?

Ratuslabus didn't say whether or not the tray opens/closes.

from expeirence m8 and i have seen it with my own eyes on a v7 quite a few times if he checked the reset cable that rules out that so the next main cause would be the fuse ps11 ccpe50 fuse which sometimes but does not always indicate a problem with the ba chip a short could have also caused this to blow but when this fuse and the ba chip go together it always kills the blue eject light and causes black screen which also disables the eject mech ive seen it alot of late.
