What size soldering tip do you guys recommend? And thanks for the advice.
The thing that changed my life is small-gauge solder. Small points were a pain in the arse when using 0,7mm solder. Now I use Multicore 63/37 0,3mm. It is incredibly expensive, but I never get solder bridges any more. Flux also makes life a lot easier.
For my irons, the most-used one is a Weller "click click" Magnastat station, model WTCP 51 and a conical, almost needle-sharp tip model PTS7. I also use a Pace station with a 1,6mm chisel tip for ground, power, an other thick wires, since the tiny tip isn't good for those. It's really nice using 2 irons with different tips, even if they are just cheapies.
One thing that is also useful is a fiber glass scraping tool, it really cleans some vias which refuse to take solder (and you can't heat them much or they'll come off giving you a real pain)
Modding PS2:s is really not so difficult. I did some when I was 14, with a 20 euro cheap-cheap 25w soldering iron and 1mm solder (YUCK). Now I've done some over a year and I hardly have to think while doing it.
