Weeb: did you meassure the coils ? Maybe they are damaged. When a PS2 is dropped mechanical problems with the drive itself may also appear. So first I'd try with another drive if that works, then the PS2 drive is fault, then you can play with it. Otherwise the motherboard is also damaged. I think the board is fine anyway.

thx
the moderboard was a bit bent cuz of 1 peice of the metal that covers it got bent but i dont think the mobo sustained any dmg
the whole tray is kinda destroyed i basiclly got JUST the laser and taped the little switch so that the ps2 thinks its closed all the time
i havent messured the coils im finding it hard 2 measure across those small legs and would like some alt points or info on how 2 get the casing of the laser
(can it b a coil problem if cds work but not dvds?)

Yes, there are alternative points to meassure coils. Look at the attached picture:
As I said, the mechanical damages also can cause the problem when trying to read DVD's.

Yes, but I have to note that it took about 3 months that anyone released anything about this problem. If I remember correctly before the Ripp*r guys' post everyone said that it's CLEARLY an "installer error" and "blame yourself". This is why many of us say the PS2 scene is dead, well it's just a dirty bussines ($ony + mod "developers", mod cloners and so on... look sometimes none knows what a clone really is, who sells original and who sells clone and well, roumors about M2 Team, Charlie's "disappear"... ) And yes I also was wrong when attacked the mod developers THAT hard blaming the problem mostly on them, but hell to be honest, I have never trusted $ony hardware that much. (compared to the Xbox, which is a newcomer in the console (+hardware) word but causes 1/10 problem) So, that's sure, I can't avoid from PS2, but Sony will never be a respected brand of mine, that's sure.
I think the death rate is somewhere between 3-15 percent anyway that deppends on the USAGE and on the batch one bought the PS2 from. As it's clear that people with Princo DVD-R can burn out anything that has an LA inside, hehehe...

Wizard: oops welcome to the club... probably the laser's coils are just gone, so did your LA aswell. And some says that death rate is just "usual"... Oh well, compared to what ? You can read more about it in the several V9 syndrome topics, there are so many that one can never know what to read to get NEW + useful information, he he he. Finally someone should do a tutorial about this all, and do a faq about this whole V9/V10 otherwise this problem will spread over in thousand topics...
