I just got a new 5001 (v9) ps2. I suppose I should play it normal for a while to see if the la chip explodes, right?

The one I recieved comes with the network pack and includes a network adapter and atv offroad bla bla. Anyone have a ps2 fail from one of these online packages?

What does this thread name * v9/v10 syndrome ( 1 2 3 4 * tell you ? This is the ANSWER, there may be LESS dead V10 than V9, but there are.

No, I don't think the number is the same... I personally have not gotten any V10 back up till now, compared to the V9 which caused heartache (+work) everyday, he he...

DIOYK-13: The problem with V9 was worst than I can accept. As far as I can remember the death rate of the V9 was some 10-15 percent. *some with laser, some with LA, some with unknown (no LA or laser) problems* Back with the V7 the rate was about 0.5-1 percent. (that time we gave 1 year full warranty on all (chipped) consoles that we sold) Now we don't give more than 1 month, hehe... About 50 chipped V10 and still no sign of dead machine. (there were a few (about 10-15) refurbised machines (V4) aswell latelly, about 30 percent of them are already (from January to March) dead because of the wellknown "superb" 400B laser which burnt out in days when the machine was used with lower quality DVD-Rs...)

Weeb: you really can't do that much without opening it. Testing it for weeks with a very low quality written DVD-R movie may help a bit, it may cause the laser/LA burn and the warranty is still ok then. When you open the machine, meassure the coils, if those are about 5 ohm, you're fine for SOME time, those may burn later in mins/hours/days especially if you're using low quality DVD-Rs for backups. Then the laser is gone, probably so does the LA (full or partially), or in the worst case you will have other problems too.

    regards, Stephen
