Hi, I just got my Hakko 936ESD, the question is what temperature would you guys recommend me setting it to for PS2 modding? Thanks.

What tip size? 0.4mm or larger?

    With the 0.4mm I use around 330 degrees C

or 355 for bigger joints and thicker wires as these require more heat.

typically between 325 and 350 is fine for all joints though.

It's a 900M-T-I tip, it's 0.2mm I think. I bought it from ebay, it's a third party tip made for the Hakko 900M soldering iron, which was really cheap, I don't know how good they are though.

By the way, what kind of thermometer did you guys use to calibrate the iron?

ummm? the 936 and 941 come pre-calibrated and have a temperature control dial. I just set the dial.

It is not an exact science where you have to re-calibrate - if the iron is not hot enough - clean the tip or turn up the temp.
