Before I buy new laser have few questions.
After mod my version 4 ps2 with DMS3 it behave like this
Cdr Original / backup boot fine.
DVD movies boot fine.
PSX games Original / backup boot fine.
The only problem it doesn?t boot PS2 DVD games Original / backup.
I tried to adjust the DVD pot and play with the cog -> no success every time I had that clicking noise and in the browser screen I see golden CD but in can?t boot, I wonder if you guys have any other suggestion.
One other thing should I buy new laser if yes is it possible to fit my version 4 400C laser instead the 400B. I heard that it is more powerful laser.

Blackmoon i had a problem similiar to yours, i have a ps2 ver 7 and i installed a Magic V, and everytime i booted the ps2 with the back up inserted it goes to the Browser and show me the Golden CD and it says playstion 2 disc in the upper right corner and everytime i press X to play the game the screen goes black for 3 seconds and comeback to the Golden CD, well i got tired of resolding the and checking the points that i desolder the chip , i never thought of adjusting the Drive because i read that ver 7 have the best driver, i'm a fool since the games didnt boot i though i got a clone chip, after reading your post i started looking for info about this laser calibration but is so hard to find this type of info on how to adjust the drive in this site , like a tutorial of some sort, and i tried the search button and nothing. well man good luck to you and here is so far what i have found Here it about Drive Adjust i wish they show some pictures.

Very good chance that the V4 needs a new laser, I find probably 50% need a new laser after modding to read some discs correctly. A 400C should work fine. Make sure to get a NEW laser, not a cheaper "reconditioned" one, which is actually just a used laser in most cases.

Two 400C lasers? There is only one 400C, and one other verision used on some V5,V7 with an "open face" on it. I think some call it the 400R. What site are you looking at?
