So I opened up my pstwo yesterday (after 3 months of having to hear that disturbing racket from the pstwo's laser) and found that the gound wire that i soldered on one of the copper pads came off.

The thing (pstwo) can read originals fine without making any loud noises, but when I put in a backup, ie. ace combat 5, I would hear a louder that usual sound during the reading of the disc, though the loading speed is still the same as reading originals. I remembered that it wasn't like this when I put in the same backup the first time after I installed the chip(magic 5kx+).

I soldered the wire back on, but still no change to the noise when reading my backups.

So my questions are: Could that be the cause of my pstwo's laser going crazy when reading some of my backups? What is the main purpose of the ground wire? Is there any way to fix this problem such as installing summone's fix?

    I don't think so.
A loose wire could fry the mainboard if it were to touch something wrong.
Most PS2 make more noise when reading backups, especially the ones made on poor media. Try burning a new one on a ritek g04 and compare the noise level.
If everything works properly, you shouldn't bother anyway.

OK, the noise levels are getting worse. Yesterday I put in a backup of Van Helsing and starwars battlefront(made on Tyg01 4x that i ordered from shop4tech), and the laser was moving back and forth like crazy during gameplay. Somebody help me plz.
