  1. #1 Fuse readings...

Here is the deal. I couldn't get any fuses to read anything steadilty but in ohms. I tested the fuses one by one and either got 30 or 37 ohms. When I went to test the fan fuse (ps5 on v7), it read 13 ohms. Am I to assume that this fuse is blown (the fan is not working)?? If I am reading them wrong, let me know. I am touching the positive to one end of the fuse, and the negative to the copper on the edge of the board. I read Charlie ps2's guides and all his measurements are in A's. I assumed the PS2 doesn't need to be powered up. Any help is appriciated.

as in testing a normal fuse if it's dead you would not get a reading at all the ohm's meter or digital display would stay at 0 ohm's if the fuse was dead if it read's presume the fuse to be working.

To read a fuse you need to put your multimeter into ohms or continuity mode - if in ohms - to the lowest setting.

Read directly across the fuse one probe on either side of it - does matter which way around you have the probes.

You should get 0 ohms - you may get a little higher depending on how good your meter is - touch the two probes together - if you get say 4 ohms when the probes are touched together then that is your zero. all fuses should then be no more than the value you got when the two probes were touched together (i.e. 4 ohms in this example).

If they read open circuit - i.e. huge or infinite ohms then the fuse is blown.

Also, short your test probes to inshore that your meter/DMM is reading low or Zero Ohms.

oops my bad ignore the above advice i got it the wrong way round.

Set the range switch to the lowest resistance range to check the fuse. A good fuse will read 0 ohms depending on what the meter reads when the leads are held together and a bad fuse will read the same as holding the leads in the air.

If your metre has a beep continuity test use this if it beep's
the fuse is good if you dont hear a beep it's dead.

    V/I = R

Some circuits are 3.3v; some are 5v; 8v; 12v. If the current rating for the fuse is 0.7A or 2A or whatever I've put in the charts, then the 30 ohm/13 ohm readings make sense.

EnTiTy has provided the remaining answers.

  9. #9 Question chain reaction?
    briguy1279 Guest
Can one blown fuse cause another one to appear blown? I tested all the fuses and 3 of them are blown. They are the ps5, the ps7, and the fuse to the left of the ps5, it's unidentified and is only on the gh-022 (does not show on charlie's gh-019 guide). Does that mean I need to order 3 fuses? Sorry about the questions, I can solder like a mo fo, but I'm no engineer And where can I order them that will overnight them without making me pay $20 for it? Thanks
