    i have done some reading and now am wondering is it the laser, how will i know if it is fried or not
    ps2 v9, chipmod pro +

    Generally if the unit will read CD based games but not DVD (silver) games then there is a good chance the laser is shot.

    If you need a new one for a V9 you could check out the 400Q at www.richspsxparts.com. Make sure you click on the "New and improved" link to see the listing for it.

    If you do replace it you will probably want to do the Romeo mod. Just search in the forums and you will find good info on it.

    you can measure the laser coils - it normally gives a good indication.
