    Well as some of you may have seen (http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showth...270#post236270) I asked about a Romeo fix for the V7. No one quite said you could do it or not, but i installed a brand new BA and killed it in about 2 hours. It took about 1 1/2 to test and get the solder points just right, but it ended up frying again.. I now have another BA on it's way, so can anyone give advice on how to prevent a dead BA on a V7? Keep in mind, i dont use crappy media (someone already thought that may have been my problem). ANyone's input would help greatly!! thanks!

    **Edit**

    Is it possible that it is over heating to the excessive heat from the soldering iron on all of the legs?? Should i maybe solder one leg at a time and give it time to cool before i move on?

    Why are you doing it on the v7? WHY?!?!?!?! The v7 uses ba chip. v9/10 uses la chip.

    Tony's right - the romeo is only used for the v9 and 10's - i dont even know what will happen is you try and apply the romeo to a BA chip!

    There are several reasons why your BA blowns in two hours, it is mostly because of a bad laser and a missing heatpad for example. You may also overheat the BA when soldering. So it is surely not because of the missing "Romeo modification". We in this forum replaced a thousand BA's with no problem. There may be other issues too with that board, I am sure.

    well some reasons it could have blown a few hours after is that things causeing to blow is still present. Alot of laser activity can cause it to blow.

    The laser is new so i dont think thats the problem... Maybe the heat pad... It's hard to believe that that little gray piece of nothing cools an important chip like the BA. I have a pad but that doesnt mean it was always on when i was testing... I know there were times when i put it on and tested and i know for a fact when it died, it wasnt on it. Its funny that when it died, the 8th pin wasnt grounded but the pins 18 and 19 were somehow connected. I took the chip off and measured the motherboard and found nothing (not bridged anywhere either) then i checked the BA and there were to no physical signs of a bridge anywhere on the chip, but my multimeter told me different, leading me to believe the internals were fried.

    I understand that the Romeo mod is for V9/10, but i was asking (or meant) is there something similar to fix dead BA on previous models like V7... Obviously not. Thanks again for your replies and anyone elses opinion is welcome.

    Romeo mod is also totaly functionnal with BA chip...

    ... but I don't think this will resolve your problem, a dead BA on V7 is VERY rare and 2 blowed in 2h can't happen in anyway exepting crapy installation / laser

    I'm not positive of this but, la pin layout is different from ba pin layout.

    I didn't speak about pin layout
    I spoke about the main goal of romeo mod ( 12v -> 5v )

    the BA pin that need to be bend up and connected to 5v is pin21

    As the BA is a much more tolerant IC and cannot be killed that easily as the LA, the modification to make its power supply to 5v is totally unnecessary. Of course you can modify anything, but as there may be malfunctions. The BA overheted because of the missing pad and died.

    regards, Stephen
