I need to know if the new Flip top case and boot disk is the way
to play my Legal, backed up games. Or is the mod chip the way to go. Thanks

The flip-top lids are a good solution for people who...

    a) Don't play many backups, as alot of them won't work right.

    b) Are afraid to have a chip installed, which is odd considering you still have to open your PS2 and void your warranty to use the flip-top.

    c) Are cheap, which is also odd since by the time you purchase the flip-top, required discs, etc. you could have had a no-swap modchip installed.

    d) Are Lazy and just want a quick and dirty solution.

There is no difinitive proof that a flip-top lid will damage your PS2 but it doesn't take a NASA engineer to figure out that having the laser exposed and doing a bunch of disc swapping isn't good in the long run.

    I disagree,
If you don?t have trust in someone?s soldering its a good "back up plan". Yes, your going to have to swap cd's every time you want to play a new game but its not that annoying wonce you get used to it.
Some advantages you might get would be.
You don?t have to solder if you don?t know anyone that can do it and can trust (Its kind of hard not put them on right)
Less Fck up's (you aren?t going to get some of the problems that have been accruing with some of the chips being sold lately)
My brother has a Magic Case and he has had absolutely no problems with his case or booting, except that his dvd boot disk got scratched. It cost him some 3 dollars to get a new one. The only thing I can think of that would be bad is that you cant play rips, but who wants to play an incomplete game anyway, right?

Thanks for all the advice. I have a GT3 v4 with low miles, and
belive I can do the soldering. I think I will go with a magic 3.1.
I need to make backups because I drop disks sometimes or
after time they dont read right.
