I recently seemed to have killed my modchip dead while trying to flash upgrade it. I can only boot my PS2 now when the modchip is in sleep/stealth/disabled mode (I bet a lot of you can guess what kind of modchip I have from that description alone ).

My question is, assuming I can find a way to load up my chip's flash utility without having the modchip active (e.g., load an ISO from HDLoader, use the exploit to run the ELF off a memory card), what's the likelihood that I could flash upgrade my chip's BIOS while it is disabled? Does this depend on the type of chip or is this generally not possible? My tests so far seem to suggest that it isn't possible, but I'm hoping someone out there more knowledgeable than I might have an idea of how it could be done. Thanks in advance!

I have never tried this but here what I think.....
When you f#!k up the bios... your pretty much screwed... thats the brain of the chip... this is like somebody ripping your brain out and telling you to do something.
If the chip is off/disabled (or as you say you 'killed' it) I highly doubt the flash program would even detect it. Even if it did the corrupt bios would refuse to coperate... err I guess it's off... long story short I very highly doubt it. But hey... I could be wrong.

Thanks for your response. To be slightly more specific, this is a dms chip, so it has a backup BIOS that is SUPPOSED to be unerasable. When something goes wrong with your BIOS, you're supposed to be able to revert to the backup BIOS by doing some crazy trick with the reset button, but I've had more luck pulling off combos in Street Fighter than getting my backup BIOS working. That's why I've been stuck using my PS2 in sleep mode. Does that change your answer at all?

Backup bios... interesting... I guess maybe if you get that reset 'trick' to work then you shoudl be ok. But I would still think the bios would be hard to restore... unless you can just wipe it. But yeah... I wonder where that backup bios would actually be... I guess ask in the dms forums... see what they can do for you (although I hear they are real a$$es).
