hope to chip my ver 5 ps2 with a duo 2 within the next few weeks, i have never modified any system before, but i do have soldering experience with small chips and wires. though i am curious to know if anyone has a few tips for me, concerning the bios chip legs, or anything else for that matter. i would apreciate the help. thanks

Just take it slowly. Take breaks every couple of wires. You don't want to be stressed out while soldering or something bad might happen. Just make sure to take your time and double check and you should be fine.

Yeah also be sure to route your wires away from screw holes, use black tape or hot glue to keep the wires secured to the board.

cut all your wires to the correct length before you begin, trim and tin your wires. put solder on the chip's copper pads before you begin.. just take it step at a time.. no rush good luck

during my first install, i was tin'ing my wires above the board, solder splashes everywhere! i started to tin them first then solder, helps keep the splashes down.

Good luck mate, if it doesn't work at first try, DON'T PANIC! Or you'll just mess it up even more.

Im always available if you need some help/advise. The good thing about the V5 and V7 board is you dont have to solder to the DVD chip, just route them to the back side via's. Very good board to start modding on. The Bios pins are pretty simple if you use the same steps everytime. The best advise I can give is to use the right equipment, mainly the soldering iron. Having the .012 tip on a 15wat iron in my opinion is the best for modding. Just tin the wire, gently scrape the leg/point to get any clearcoat that may be on there, put a small amount of paste flux on the leg, and hold the wire close to it with a pair of tweezers, and gently touch the wire until it sticks. Then clean of the points with a qtip and alcohol and youre good to go.

Let us know if you need any more help.

EDIT: to prepare the via points I scrape them (gently) with a sharp knife (or fiberglass pen), place a small amount of flux on there with a sewing needle. Then I have a tiny peice of solder I clip of with nail clips, pick it up with the soldering iron and touch the via. THis makes it very easy to solder the wire onto.
