    Hello
I am about to have a PS2 chipped for the first time.
I've read the forum for a while and the more I read, the more I get confused!

So here is the simple question for you.
Should I get a V7 or the new V9? Seems like Messiah chips are having problems with V9 models, is this correct?

I am basically want to play back-ups and import originals.
    Please advise.
Thanks so much .. oh.. happy holidays!!

Still vote for V7. There are many many problems with V9 machines, and that is not only the "Messiah effect". You can get another chip thought, but it can kill your PS2 aswell, and this is mostly happening to V9.

    regards, Stephen

I have a ps2v9 w/dms3v9, ps2v7 w/dms3v2 and a ps2v7 w/magic 3.1 all NTSC u/c. I myself like the v-9 progressive scan, it is queiter absolutely no fan noise, IR remote, lighter to move room to room, reads everything you put into it. I am nervous about that v-9 issue but the pattern I see is it is pal related, europe and austrailia, chip specific (messiah, matrix ml). I am now over 30 days for direct exchange so I never wrapped as a gift. My v-9 seam to be very sound with dms3v9 and professionally installed by Loy. I have found several installers that have had same success as myself. The magic 50k has reported much success but I was not happy with 2 v-7 w/magic 3.1. My daughter wants me to remod her ps2v7 w/magic 3.1to dms3v2 for the dev.mode alows her to play mp3s, kodac jpgs, and her rodeo training divx.
    I rec. v-9, dms3v9 and professional install.
