Ok, I Need To Understand a Few things...
    1. Why Do You Need A Switch For Magic III And Why Does It Crash Some Games? I Have A Blue Chip Which Is PRETTY Old And NOTHING and i mean NOTHING Crashes
    2. Why Can't You Boot Games Off Browser? This Is The One I'm Wondering... My Friend's Old PAL Model With Messiah Boots Straight From The Browser... And Mine Just Continuosly Loads The Game, Any Idea?
    3. Is It Hard Installing A Switch? Do You Have To Cut Any Tracks? Or Just Split The Wires? I'm A Bit Familiar With Doing This Kind Of Thing With Electric Cables And TV Cables, But Not With Soldering, Is It Any Hard?
    Well, Anyway...

    1. Well some people use it for online gaming, or to get DVD9 games to boot. The switch is only needed(optional) for the Magic 3, not the 3.1. Probably because it may have a cleaner code who knows.

    2. Ask the people who made the chip, hah.

    3. A switch is easy to install. Just need a good place to mount it, then you put the switch between a few wires, find directions in the forum.

Sorry, but the switcher isn't an option on Magic3, in fact is necessary !!

This is all because the code on m3 isn't good, contains bugs where it can eject a signal on Z pin and crash in a lot applications and games like:

    - DVD Region X
    - Try to swap any disc on multigame CDs
    - Mediareality (divx player)
    - Kingdom Hearts
    - GTA VC
    - and so on

Magic 3.1 suffer of same problem, the Magic Team guys just fixed some bugs on M3, and now do not crash on games like K. H. and GTA VC (I do not confirm this 100%, but on simple test it passed), but still have problems with DVD Region X, and swapping disc too.

This why you need to put a switcher on it, when switcher is operacional, DVD Region X works fine, and other applications too, and do not hang anymore on games also.

Magic 3.x are just craps (IMHO). No wonder this crap is so cheap right now (here's about US$ 35 for Magic 3.1, but I prefer pay US$ 100 for a really good modchip, like Messiah2 PRO).

Ok, do you actually own a Magic 3.1? Because I have one and I have absolutly no problem swaping disc. I do it on the PS2Reality Mediaplayer all the time. And the 3.1 turn itself off after 90 seconds so I don't understand why you would have problem with DVD region X, but I haven't tryed it so I can't confirm. But there is no hanging problem with the Magic 3.1 and there is no need for a switch on it. And if you ever have any problems booting DVD-9, you could just turn the chip off. But DVD-9 are supposed to boot correctly on the 3.1.

magic 3.0 had crappy code that when the game/data stream sort of 'hiccups', the disc authentication would start all over again, and it would just fook up and freeze because the game has already booted. the switch is to get rid of the power connected to the chip after it has booted the game, so that it doesnt try to re-authenticate the disc, and wont freeze.

older mods didnt have this problem, because they had some time spent on it magic tried something, and failed miserably

    2. Why Can't You Boot Games Off Browser? This Is The One I'm Wondering... My Friend's Old PAL Model With Messiah Boots Straight From The Browser... And Mine Just Continuosly Loads The Game, Any Idea?

its about patching timing. different version bios' act differently, and some mods have better/optomized code on some versions, so some boot from the browser, and some dont

a noob would have some problems, but could probably get it done eventually. magic 3.0 i dont think you have to cut the track, but magic 2 i think you do.... you'd have to solder some wires, so youd need a modest bit of soldering skill.

ok, i hope you don't mind me semi-hijacking your thread, but i had a few questions of the like myself...

    1) How do you determine what version a Magic 3 chip is... Mine just says AutoDetect0-7 on the bottom...

    2) With the chip installed without a switch, what's a good method of testing a crash.. I haven't had this problem (yet)..

    3) With a properly ripped game, won't it help alleviate any crashing problems it might have??

As stated above, i haven't had anything crash on me, and oddly enough, i've had much more success than any of the posts online about their Magic chips... I don't know whta version mine is, because all it says is the AutoDetect0-7, and was advertised as a Magic3, that's all...
oh, and i thought i saw a pic showing where to cut on the magic 3's for a switch, but i might be wrong...

    1. If your chip has a sticker on it that says V1-V7 it's a magic 3.1. If not then its Magic 3

    2. The best way to test is the Kingdom Hearts intro..see if you can go through the whole thing several times without freezing.

    3. I don't think any ripped game is reported for crashing..just DVD games and if rip games cause problams its almost always that it won't boot.
