Check messiah 2 for splashes of solder.
Your right, clock can't be it. Thanks to Charlie_PS2, he is saving my piece of mind and gray hair by sending me another M2. I am really starting to think this chip is faulty.
I will probably open it up yet again and check for the 10th time.
Is it possible that a weak SCEx connection would play PS1 backups but prevent PS2 backups? CLK and SCEx were the only connections I did not redo 3 times. Another thought is could it be possible to have this symptom due to the metal cage possibly making contact with a soldered connection that may have been a bit high?? These are new thoughts for the day! I did place electrical tape on the underside of the metal cage above the m2 and did the same on the bottom cage over the CD Controller connections.
Yes - do check for solder balls behind the BIOS legs. Big magnifying glass needed.
Thanks to charly for replacing my messiah2(faulty)
That gives me hope that mine is faulty as well... Cause I stopped wasting CD-r's a week ago!!!
you didnt get b and c wire mixed up again????

about the earlier reply regarding bridged pins.
should the messiah2 have any pins bridged at the surface of the pcb?
i just got one and it has the same pins as mentioned before and i didn't do it cos it aint installed yet.
Yes have bridges by default.
Pin in GND with the next right
Pin of A with the next left
thanks villasg, couldn't find any confirmation anywhere else and it just seemed weird for the manufacturer to flow solder accross the pins. bit of an oversight on the original board design i guess.
will happily install it then
